Before you come
Walk guidelines
Everything worth knowing before your first walk with us — what to bring, how booking works, and what we ask of you on the street.
Booking
- Registration is mandatory for every walk. Places are limited so that everyone can hear.
- Walks are announced on Instagram roughly a fortnight ahead, with date, time, meeting point and cost.
- To book, WhatsApp or call us. We will confirm your place and send the meeting details.
- Cost is typically ₹300 per person. Festival and museum walks may differ, and museum entry is charged separately where it applies.
What to bring
- Comfortable walking shoes. Some routes have uneven stone and unpaved stretches.
- Water. We walk in the morning, but Pune is Pune.
- A cap or hat, and sunscreen in summer; an umbrella in the monsoon.
- A little cash for chai, and for temple or museum entry where it applies.
On the walk
- We start on time. Please allow for traffic and parking.
- We walk through neighbourhoods where people live and work. Please keep out of doorways, keep voices down in lanes, and ask before photographing anyone.
- Some stops are places of worship. Footwear off where it is asked for, and please dress in a way you would be comfortable visiting a temple in.
- Please do not litter, and do not touch carvings or painted surfaces.
Children and accessibility
- Children are welcome and come on most walks. Under-12s should be accompanied.
- Routes vary in terrain. If someone in your group has limited mobility, tell us when you book and we will advise which walks suit — Sarasbaug and the Kelkar Museum are the gentlest.
Weather and cancellation
- We walk in light rain. If a walk has to be called off for heavy rain or any other reason, we will tell you as early as we can and refund in full or move you to the next date, whichever you prefer.
- If you cannot make it, please let us know so we can offer your place to someone on the waiting list.
Photographs
- We take photographs on walks and sometimes post them on Instagram or here. If you would rather not appear, just tell us on the day — that is entirely fine.
Safety
- You join a walk at your own risk. We walk on public streets with traffic, uneven surfaces and steps; please take care of yourself and anyone with you.
- Tell us about any medical condition we should know about before we set off.
